About Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a hands on manipulative form of primary care medicine, which means we are trained to make an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan without prior need for orthodox medical opinion or referral. Osteopathy places emphasis on the function, biomechanics, movement and mobility of the body and in particular that of the spine, cranium, nerves, muscles, discs and supporting tissues. This is clearly reflected in the distinct way in which we assess and treat our patients, taking care to recognise the holistic nature of the way the body works in unison, each part affecting the function of another. As Osteopaths, we not only target the site of pain, but also the causes of your pain, also taking into account general health, occupational stresses, sports and fitness as well as diet etc, using our hands to feel or palpate the tissues to build a detailed picture of the problems that can lie deep within.

How can Osteopathy help me?
Osteopathic treatment is always specifically tailored to you the individual and after a detailed case history and examination, a diagnosis is made and a treatment plan formulated. Osteopathy is a gentle hands on therapy which uses carefully selected and applied techniques to bring about tissue change and thus improvement, and can be used on any area of the body so that the benefits of our treatment is not merely confined to the spine. Please be sure to call and talk to an osteopath call if you have any questions about whether you have a problem we can help remedy.
Who regulates the Osteopaths?
The Osteopathic profession is now regulated in law by the Osteopaths Act 1993, and this is administered by our governing body, the General Osteopathic Council , (G.Os.C.). All U.K. Osteopaths must be registered with the G.Os.C. and follow a strict code of practice and ethics in order to be legally entitled to practice.
Importantly for the protection of the public, all Osteopaths must maintain their registration with the G.Os.C. at all times, hold full Indemnity insurance and undergo 30 hours per year of continuing training.
