We are the only practice in the Wolverhampton area offering a combination of osteopathy, herbal medicine and naturopathy. This means we are in the unique position of having the potential to bring each or all of these to bear when treating your presenting complaint and improving your underlying health.

Whether you consult us with a simple, complex or multiple problems you can benefit from a combination approach to help foster a more rapid and sustained recovery. For example, many osteopathic patients who consult us with simple back or neck pain are often surprised to learn that changes to their diet, use of herbal oils and remedies as well as manipulation and exercises often achieve a quicker result than using any one of these alone.

Of course we treat many patients purely for general health problems where osteopathy is not necessary and herbal medicine and naturopathy have good success as stand alone therapies in their own right, treating conditions such as blood pressure, irritable bowel syndrome, eczema, stress and sleep disorders, chest conditions and many other complaints too.

What is Herbal Medicine?

Herbal medicine is possibly the oldest form of treatment known to man. It uses plants (herbs) as natural remedies prescribed in medicinal doses to restore health and resolve illness without the potential for unwanted side effects associated with modern drugs.

Further, as is a common thread running through all alternative therapies, we take the time, indeed make it a specific objective to look at each person as an individual not just as another “case”. After a thorough case history and examination, herbs are dispensed as tinctures, oils, creams, dried teas etc and often enhanced with dietary advice and the use of food supplements. Other lifestyle changes may also be considered.

Herbalists in the U.K. follow a stringent training course which currently runs as a 4 year full time course and then we usually register as members of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists and can be recognised by the post nominal letters M.N.I.M.H. Progress is being made to regulate the profession in law (like Osteopaths) but all herbalists maintain full insurance and a programme of ongoing training.

What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy complements the use of herbs as it lays emphasis on helping the body to help itself heal by optimizing our inner vitality and self healing mechanisms. In addition to the above methods, naturopathic treatment might include short periods of fasting, juicing and hydrotherapy etc which can be extremely potent in effect. We sometimes perform diagnostic tests such as allergy testing, hair analysis in order to determine mineral profiles and nutritional status.

Again Naturopaths are highly trained professionals maintaining full indemnity insurance and can be recognised by the post nominal letters, N.D. M.R.N. showing that they are registered with the General Council and Register of Naturopaths.

We have at our Wolverhampton practice a State Registered Chiropodist and Podiatrist, Rob Hartness who has 30 years experience since qualifying from Durham University.
